Course Description: Students work with the instructor and WLC faculty advisors to research, synthesize, write and present their Capstone projects. Students will also complete a Graduation ePortfolio reflecting how each MLO was met. This course is required for all Japanese Language and Culture, and Spanish Language and Hispanic Cultures majors.
Course Narrative: In WLC 400 my partner and I were able to finalize our capstone project. We had started this project during fall 2022 semester. This course helped me to complete MLO 6 because as a group we had to learn how to synthesize many scholarly articles which pertained to our investigation. We had to learn how to paraphrase much of the information which we came upon in articles and we had to learn how to effectively use the technology available to us by searching for articles using the CSUMB library. In this course we had the experience of completing an investigation as a requirement for the completion of the Spanish major. My partner and I chose to investigate about a Spanish writer, Maria de Zayas. As part of this research we had to create two presentations in English and Spanish to present at the capstone festival as well as an essay on the results of the research. This experience has also introduced me to the process of research, such as formulating adequate research questions that lead to a solid research of a certain topic and knowing how to search for reliable resources. Finally, we had to work on our E-portfolio and finish it with the narratives about all the courses taken in our journey at CSUMB.
