Course Narrative: Through this course, I became involved in a community project; relevant to engaging matters relative to justice, compassion, diversity, and social responsibility. The course was designed to help me enhance my skills in personal and professional communications as well as classroom discussions and oral presentations in Spanish. This course helped to fulfill MLO 5 because I not only learned about my community but also ways in which I could volunteer with the skills I had and form part of the community. In my thirty hours of community service, I helped in a basketball academy in Salinas (Gil Basketball Academy). This academy helped me a lot to get involved in my community helping children to learn the sport of basketball and through this sport to instill some values such as being respectful, being responsible, being fair, honesty and building confidence in children and youth. At the end of the semester I wrote an essay about my experience in this service and about some topics such as bilingualism. I also had the opportunity to present to the class about this academy and talk a little bit about the activities I did, the objectives of the academy, among other things.
