Integrative Narrative
Many times we receive indirect or direct messages from people close to us telling us that we can be good at something. Many times when you hear them you don't pay attention to them or rather you don't take them into account. Over time as you flow you will understand the messages that these people were trying to give you. The message or saying they told me was do good without looking at who. I decided to study Spanish for several reasons. The first reason is that I have always been passionate about my culture, my language, and my roots. My parents asked me why do you want to study Spanish if you already know how to speak, read and write in Spanish? The other reason is because I would like to become a teacher and give back to the community that once welcomed me with open arms. I would like to have a positive impact on future generations and contribute a grain of sand in the community where I live, which is Salinas.
During my time at Csumb I have learned many things about Spanish that I did not know before. For example, I gained knowledge about Mexican, Latin American and Spanish literature. I also gained knowledge about linguistics and the meaning it has in the Spanish language. I also developed professional skills in communication and writing. When I transferred from Hartnell College to Csumb I came with the idea that I was going to learn more about grammar than literature, I never thought I would be taking different literature classes. My main goal was to learn and acquire as much knowledge as possible about each class I was going to take and so far I must admit that I do have a great general knowledge of the Spanish program of Csumb. Overall, I am proud of myself for all that I learned and acquired in my journey at CSUMB as it helped me grow not only academically but also on a personal level. For example, in one of my semesters I had a class that got me more involved with my community. This class helped me to be able to look at the problems that occur in my community and be able to make a change.
In the future I would like to continue to improve my Spanish skills. I have always believed that there is always something new to learn and we will always have room to acquire new knowledge. I would like to pursue a career where I can give back to my community.
